The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) came in to force on the 1st October 2006. All businesses will have to be compliant with immediate effect.
The responsibility of the building will be with the employers, occupiers and owners. There will be one person responsible to maintain compliance with the RRFSO. They will have the duty of care to protect employees, contractors, public and firefighters. Making sure there is:
- Adequate means of escape
- Certainty of access to means of escape
- Suitable means of fire fighting
- Effective means of detection and warning
- Effective management control, including communication with emergency services.
Non-compliance with the RRFSO can result in prosecution, either a fine or prison.
