Promat UK supplies fire protection solutions to London’s largest office development
28/01/2009
Promat UK has supplied passive fire protection solutions to London’s largest new office development, Broadgate Tower and 201 Bishopsgate. The developments represent the largest ever speculative office development undertaken in the City of London, creating 800,000 sq ft of new office space. Large parts of the development have already been let to Reed and Smith, Henderson Global Investors, LBBW and Mayer Brown.
A number of products from the Promat PROMASEAL® fire stopping range were used to seal gaps around services in walls, partitions and floors including PROMASEAL® Fire Barrier, Intumescent Acrylic Sealant, Pipewrap and Fire Compound Extra Strength. The Promat PROMASEAL® range has been independently fire tested to provide up to 240 minutes fire protection as part of a passive fire protection system.
The importance of sealing any gaps in fire resisting constructions is vital to ensure the system works to its optimum ability in order to save life and property. Such gaps are typically found where services penetrate walls and floors, but could also include gaps left for structural movement.
In addition, Promat supplied fire protection materials to protect the building’s structural steelwork and Promat SUPALUX® to protect the building’s lift shafts. Promat DURASTEEL® was also used for impact fire rated ducting.
Steve Adams of R&S Fire Limited, the specialist fire protection contractor, commented: “Promat were able to provide us with excellent technical support and advice on the design of the system, as well as supply their full portfolio of fire protection products for the system build. When we think of fire protection materials, we think of Promat.”
