Promat TL Board® helps keep patients warm at Caerphilly Hospital
04/08/2011
Promat UK has supplied a thermal upgrading solution to help achieve exceptional insulation performance for a new hospital in Wales. The location of the new 276-bed Caerphilly Hospital on a reclaimed flood plain means that the entire structure is elevated by one floor, leaving the ground floor as undercover car parking. This is where over 18,000m2 of Promat TL Board® has been installed to the undercroft, to helpachieve a thermal performance of 0.20W/m2K for the ground-floor car park area.
Promat TL Board® is a calcium silicate board, bonded to phenolic insulation and is designed to be fixed to the underside of concrete floors or decks to improve their thermal performance.
The insulation system for Caerphilly Hospital was designed and installed by Avalon Insulation Services. “As well as the functional benefits of Promat TL Board®, this system provides excellent design aesthetics and is easy to install and maintain,” comments Avalon’s Mike Callan. “Promat’s Sales and Technical advisors have also been on-hand throughout to advise us on the system design and installation.”
Promat TL Board® is BBA certified (Agrément Certificate 09/4646) and does not use CFCs or HCFCs. It has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 5 and therefore benefits from an enhanced BREEAM rating.
The new 276-bed Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital will replace the existing Caerphilly Miners Hospital and other community facilities in the area. Once complete it will become the UK’s first ever, 100% single-room hospital.
BAM Construction was selected as Supply Chain Partner for the design and construction of this project.
